February 21, 2012 – Legislative Update

Welcome to my legislative web site. As someone who was born and raised in South King County, it’s an honor to serve as your state representative.
My focus is on the creation and retention of good, living-wage jobs in our community. I believe the following are crucial to a strong local economy:
- Keeping our education system strong by investing in our public schools, from early childhood programs to our colleges and technical schools.
- Continuing to strengthen our industrial core in the Kent Valley, and expanding job opportunities in the service industry in SeaTac /Highline.
- Maintaining the quality of life that attracts both workers and employers to our area, including a healthy Puget Sound and a transportation infrastructure that moves people and goods quickly and efficiently.
If you want information about these or other legislative issues, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome your thoughts and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Rep. Dave Upthegrove

Rep. Dave Upthegrove (D-Des Moines) with St. Philomena Catholic School eighth-graders David and Hailey Johnston on the floor of the House of Representatives, where the Johnstons of Des Moines, Washington served as legislative pages the week of January 16, 2012. Any student (aged 14-17) is eligible to serve as a legislative page in the state House or Senate where, for one week, they deliver messages for lawmakers and learn first-hand about the democratic process. If you know a student interested in serving as a page, they should contact their local lawmakers.
