2009 Committees
Commerce & Labor - Vice-Chair
The House Commerce & Labor Committee considers labor issues relating
to the workers' compensation system, the unemployment insurance system,
workforce development, collective bargaining, and employment standards,
such as wage laws and working conditions. Commerce issues considered by
the committee include business regulation, the regulation of professions
(except for financial and health care professions), and consumer
protection. The committee also considers the regulation and oversight of
liquor and gambling activity (both tribal and non-tribal), including the
state lottery and horse racing.
Health & Human Services Appropriations
The House Health and
Human Services Appropriations Committee considers issues relating to
funding of health and human services programs and agencies and makes
funding recommendations to the Ways and Means Committee. In addition,
the committee considers bills relating to health and human services with
limited fiscal impact.
Transportation
The House Transportation Committee considers the transportation
budget, revenue sources for transportation funding, and issues relating
to transportation policy and transportation agencies, including the
Department of Transportation and the Washington State Patrol.
