McCoy and Sells get funds to fix the Cliff Bailey Center’s roof

February 21, 2008

OLYMPIA – There was success in the State Capitol on Wednesday, February 20th, as the House rolled out its Capital Budget, which included $342,000 for the Cliff Bailey Center.

“This is an important place for the people of Everett,” said Rep. Mike Sells (D – Everett).  “The Cliff Bailey Center is nearly 70 years old and I’d hate to see something that historic subject to demolition due to problems in its structure.”

Originally built in the late 1930’s, the center’s roof has deteriorated significantly and is in need of a replacement.  With tiles missing or broken, as well as water damage, the roof was rated with a failing grade upon its inspection.

“This building is used by the community,” said Rep. John McCoy (D – Tulalip), “and with all its disrepair, I’d like to think that we could be proactive in getting it back to a usable condition.”

The $342,000 in the announced budget on Wednesday will go toward repairing the Cliff Bailey Center’s north end roof.  With these new capital budget funds, the 38th Legislative District has a total of $72,770,800 in the biennium for local projects.
