Seaquist sponsors Gig Harbor teen to serve as page in Legislature
February 29, 2008 OLYMPIA – Local eighth-grade student McKenna Green recently spent a week learning democracy first-hand, serving as a page in the House. The daughter of Karin and Jeff Green of Gig Harbor, McKenna, 14, attends Kopachuck Middle School in the Peninsula School District. State Rep. Larry Seaquist, D-Gig Harbor, sponsored McKenna as a page. “It was great having McKenna down in Olympia helping out and learning a thing or two about the process,” Seaquist said. “It’s hard to understand what happens during the legislative session without actually seeing it yourself. Hopefully she’ll tell others about her experience.” Since 1891, students have come from across the state to serve as pages in the Senate and House of Representatives. Students or parents interested in the page program should contact Rep. Seaquist’s office. Pages spend one week in Olympia, with housing and a meal allowance provided.
