2009 Committees
House Democratic Leadership: Caucus Chair
Health Care and Wellness
The House Health Care and Wellness Committee considers a broad range
of issues relating to the provision of physical and mental health care
services and strategies to promote better health. Health care service
issues include the licensing and regulation of health care facilities
(such as hospitals, trauma care centers, and long-term care facilities)
and the credentialing of health care providers (such as doctors, nurses,
chiropractors, and mental health professionals). The committee also
regulates pharmacies and pharmaceutical drugs, and has oversight and
regulatory responsibility for state and local public health programs.
The committee also considers issues relating to the accessibility and
affordability of health care in both the private health insurance market
and public health programs such as medicaid and the basic health plan.
Rules
The Rules Committee considers all bills reported from policy and fiscal committees and determines whether, and in what order, to schedule their consideration on the floor of the House. The Rules Committee also reviews, adopts and schedules consideration of floor resolutions
Health & Human Services Appropriations
The House Health & Human Services Appropriations Committee considers issues relating to the
funding of health and human services agencies and makes funding recommendations to the
Ways and Means Committee. In addition, the committee considers bills relating to
health and human services with limited fiscal impact.
Joint Committee on Veterans' & Military Affairs.
This important committee considers all aspects of legislation, policies and funding that impact Washington's
veterans, active duty military—including the Washington National Guard—and military families.
Dawn has served as Chair of this committee in previous years.
Because of her work on behalf of veterans and military families, Dawn was named the 2007 Legislator of the Year
by the Governor's Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee. She received the honor on Veterans Day, 2007.
Member: State Council on Aging
The State Council on Aging advises the Governor and state
agencies on policies. programs and services that have an impact on older people in Washington State.
