Rep. Marko Liias Votes to Secure Funding for Infrastructure

January 25, 2008

Washington’s House of Representatives voted to allocate millions of dollars for local infrastructure projects through the Public Works Trust Fund (HB 2437).

Rep. Marko Liias (D-21), a co-sponsor of the legislation, cast his vote, which will bring $8 million to help replace the aging sewer trunk line through Big Gulch in Mukilteo, and add a high-flow bypass line for excess stormwater flows, and then add road access to maintain the line and restore the creek habitat that has been damaged due to emergency repairs in 2007 and construction damage.

“The tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis was a sad reminder how much people rely on our roads, bridges, sewer and water lines, and that we need to ensure that our public resources are carefully allocated to maintain and replace infrastructure in a timely way,” said Rep. Liias.

Rep. Liias went on to say that he believes these projects will also generate family-wage jobs in the district. “Job creation is one of my major priorities,” commented Liias.
