Rep. Zack Hudgins, serving the 11th District

Serving parts of South Seattle, Burien, Sea-Tac, Tukwila, and the southern part of Renton.

Zack Hudgins' Photo Gallery

The Governor has begun to sign bills into law.  This week I attended three bill signings.  The first phased out dangerous PBDEs which are toxic flame retardant chemicals that are turning up in our bodies, food and water.  The other two bills were supported by the State Patrol and were focused on motorcycle safety.

To the left, I am just outside the Governor’s office, talking to Jeff Devere and Davor Gjurasic from the state patrol while waiting for a bill signing.

To the right, I am in the Governor’s office lobby speaking with Rep. Steve Conway from Tacoma, while we wait for a bill signing.

On the left is what a bill signing photograph looks like.  This is for HB 1024, the PBDE phase out bill.  I am on the far right in this photo.

I also led the House Floor this week as the Presiding officer of the body.  As the Speaker of the House I held the gavel and led debate on a number of bills that came up for discussion on the Floor during our concurrence calendar, 2nd reading calendar, and 3rd reading final passage speeches.  To the right, I am shown presiding with the Cathy Maynard, the Speaker’s sitting attorney next to me.

To the left is a photo taken just outside of my office. I am pictured with members of SEIU 1199NW largely made up of nurses. Many groups come to visit Olympia, to attend hearings, and to ask for help working on their legislation. I learn an amazing amount from people that come down from the district to tell me about their issues.
To the right: Every two weeks I send a video message home to keep you posted about the work we are doing here in Session.  Here I am reviewing a message I just taped.  The video is sent to cable stations in Renton and Burien, and posted on my legislative website (http://www.housedemocrats.wa.gov/members/hudgins/news.asp.)

The photo to the left shows me shaking hands with Ricardo Sanchez, the executive director of the Latino Education Achievement Project LEAP. I spoke at the LEAP conference to some of the best and brightest college-bound Latino students in our state who came to Olympia. Ricardo and I worked closely this Session on several bills and budget items.
During the session many elected officials come down to talk to us about the impact of legislation on their local jurisdictions. The mayors and city councils come from Burien, Renton, Tukwila, Seatac, Seattle, and King County. Pictured to the right is my seatmate in the 11th, Bob Hasegawa, with Carlos Jimenez and Karen Veloria, two elected members of the Highline Community Council. I took this photo at one of the many receptions that are hosted here during session.

Even with our long days in Olympia, I try to get out into the community at home as much as I can. The photo to the left is of Representative Eric Pettigrew from the 37th district and me with newscaster Mary Nam at a benefit for the Wing Luke Museum. The Wing Luke Museum will be a nationally recognized museum focusing on the Asian Pacific American experience in the Northwest.
