16th District legislators support public works projects

More than $10 million secured in financing

January 23, 2008

Rep. Bill Grant, and Rep. Maureen Walsh, both of Walla Walla, today voted in favor of making financing available for two important projects in College Place and Kennewick.

More than $10 million will be loaned to the cities through the Public Works Trust Fund. The money will be used to upgrade water and sewer systems that will cost the cities a combined total of $12 million.

"The Public Works Trust Fund is a great tool that state government can use to help local governments meet specific needs in many of our communities around the state," Walsh said.

"The public works upgrades these funds provide will help keep our communities safe and healthy as they continue to grow," Grant said.

Below is the financing allocated to the respective cities for their projects:

16th Legislative District Projects - Public Works Trust Fund

City of College Place
2005 water system improvement project       $4,710,051

City of Kennewick
Wastewater treatment plant upgrades          $5,500,000

The Public Works Trust Fund was created by the Legislature in 1985 to administer financing for critical public works projects around the state.
