Fourth graders travel to Olympia, visit 16th district legislatorsJanuary 24, 2007
OLYMPIA – The entire fourth grade class of Dayton’s Blue Mountain Christian School was in Olympia yesterday – all two of them. Katie Ann Warren, 8, and her classmate Katie Maynard, 9, made the trip with Katie Ann’s parents, Glenn and Aileen Warren of Dayton. The girls toured the Capitol and later met with their representatives from the 16th district, Reps. Bill Grant (D – Walla Walla) and Maureen Walsh (R – College Place). “They’re taking Washington State History right now, so they have a whole list of questions prepared to ask the representatives,” said Aileen Warren. Upon returning to Dayton, the girls plan to give a presentation at their school about the Legislature. For Reps. Grant and Walsh, it was a pleasant surprise to get a visit from the young constituents, especially since their district is several hundred miles away on the other side of the state. The legislators posed for photographs with the girls on the House floor. “It’s great when young people are interested in government,” Grant said. “Maybe one or both of them will run for public office one day.” Katie Maynard is the daughter of Eric and Rhonda Maynard, also of Dayton. # # # Staff Contact: Jennifer Zahn Spieler (360) 786-7201; spieler.jennifer@leg.wa.gov Link to Rep Grant’s Website and print quality photo: http://www.housedemocrats.wa.gov/members/grant/ Radio and TV News Directors: To obtain broadcast-quality audio on this issue, or to arrange for TV or radio interviews, please contact Caucus Broadcast Coordinator Dan Frizzell at frizzell.dan@leg.wa.gov or (360) 786-7208.
