Panel Examines National Trends Affecting State Budgets; Working Relationships between State and Local Governments

March 5, 2007

OLYMPIA— State Rep. Mark Ericks (D-Bothell) was appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) standing Budgets and revenue Committee by Speaker Pro-Tempore John Lovick (D-Mill Creek) on February 28, 2007.

"The experience Mark has gained during the last two budget cycles enables him to bring a distinctive Washington State perspective to fiscal issues confronting all of the 50 states," noted Lovick.

Ericks, who has represented the 1st Legislative District since 2005, served as Vice Chair of the House Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee during his first term, and he currently vice chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Audit Review.

"I am honored to have been selected and welcome this opportunity to work with legislators from other states,” said Ericks, who also holds seats in the Finance and the Appropriations Committees. “I am certain this experience will provide me with an opportunity to gain new insights and ideas to better serve the citizens of Washington."

The National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization serving legislators and staff of all 50 states by providing research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on state issues.

The NCSL Budgets and Revenue Committee examines issues with state fiscal implications and discusses how to improve the working relationship between state and local governments. It also studies legislative oversight and the legislative budget process.
