February 7, 2007

OLYMPIA – Representative Mark Ericks (D-Bothell) was selected “Legislator of the Year for the House Democratic Caucus” by the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS). The award was presented to him at the WACOPS luncheon held at the Phoenix Inn on Wednesday, January 31st, 2007.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition from the women and men of law enforcement who with bravery, dedication and devotion to the people of the state protect us against crime day in and day out,” said Ericks. “While I’m happy to support law enforcement as a legislator, it is the members of our law enforcement profession who are truly the strength behind the badge.”

A longtime community leader, Rep. Ericks is a former Chief of the Bothell Police Department, who dedicated over three decades to law enforcement.

“Mark has been a great friend to law enforcement during his time as a state representative,” said Lee Reaves, WACOPS Government Relations. “Not only is he one of us, but he also understands the big picture in law enforcement and he’s always there when we need to discuss an issue. He’s a real good resource and we look forward to working with him as he continues to serve the citizens of our state.”

The Washington Council of Police & Sheriffs, which represents over 5000 city police officers and county deputy sheriffs, is a professional organization that has protected the rights and the quality of life of sworn law enforcement officers before the Washington State Legislature for more than 35 years.

The Council has a long and impressive history of passing bills protecting those who have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving our communities.

Mark Ericks has been a member of the Washington State House of Representatives since 2005. During his time in office he has sponsored numerous anti-crime measures, and last year he sponsored House Resolution 4712 honoring law enforcement officers.
